What we keep, and why.
Last updated 14 September 2026.
fitcrop turns an Instagram reel into shoppable links. You send us a reel, we look at it, and we send back where to buy what is in it. This page says exactly what that involves.
What we collect
- How to reach you. Your phone number if you text us, or your Instagram-scoped user ID if you message us on Instagram. The Instagram ID is specific to our app and is not your username or your account password.
- Your login, if you make an account. The email address you sign up with. If you sign in with Google, Google also shares your name and profile picture with us. If you sign in with Apple, Apple shares an email address, which can be a private relay address Apple makes so we never see your real one. A password is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form, so nobody here can read it.
- What you send us. The reel links and the questions you write, because answering “which bag” requires reading the words “which bag”.
- What we found. The garments detected in a reel, the products matched to them, and anything you saved.
- Your preferences. Favourite brands and a budget range, if you set them. These only reorder results.
We do not ask for your address or any payment details. We never see your Instagram, Google or Apple password, and we cannot read any conversation other than the one you have with us.
Who else touches it
Finding a product inside a video takes services we do not run ourselves. They fall into five groups, and each sees only the part of the job it is doing:
- Signing in. The service that runs our logins keeps your email and, if you choose Google or Apple, what they share. Google or Apple sees that you signed in to fitcrop.
- Messaging. Whoever carries the message between you and us, the same way any messaging app does.
- Video and image analysis. Sees frames from the reel and your question, to work out what the clothing is. Does not train on either.
- Product search. Sees cropped pictures of garments, not of you, to find where they are sold.
- Hosting. Stores the database and the images, in the United States.
We do not sell your data, we do not share it for advertising, and we run no third-party analytics or tracking pixels. If you want the current list of named providers, ask us and we will tell you.
How long we keep it
A reel we have already worked out is kept so that the next person to send it gets an answer immediately instead of paying for the same analysis again. That means the catalogue of a reel, and the cropped images of the clothing in it, stay indefinitely. They are not tied to you, and they stay even after you are gone.
What is tied to you, your messages, your submissions, your saved products and your preferences, is kept until you ask us to delete it, and then it goes.
If you are in a reel we were sent
This part is about people who never messaged us at all. When someone sends us your reel, we take still frames from it and crop out the clothing so we can search for it. Those crops can contain your face or your body, and we keep them for as long as we keep the reel.
We only ever do this to reels that are public, we do not build a profile of you, we do not try to identify you by name, and we do not use anything from your reel to train a model. What we are looking for is the jacket.
If you would rather we did not hold your reel, send us the link, either by email to hello@askfitcrop.com or by messaging @askfitcrop, and we will delete the frames, the crops and the catalogue. You do not need an account and you do not have to explain why.
Your choices
Text stop and we stop messaging you. Ask us to delete your data and we delete all of it, which is the one action on this site that cannot be undone. The deletion page has the details.
Children
fitcrop is not for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly keep their data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will tell you on the channel you already use to talk to us rather than quietly editing this page.
Contact
Email hello@askfitcrop.com, message @askfitcrop on Instagram, or reply to any text we have sent you. Email is the one that works if you have never used fitcrop, which is the case for most people asking about a reel they are in.
